As CBD grows in popularity its benefits are becoming well known to consumers throughout the world. One of those well known benefits is relief from stress and anxiety.
Why is this important? Well, did you know that anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States, affecting more than 40 million adults, which is roughly 20% of the population? Based upon this data it is evident that we need better treatments and solutions so we can help the growing number of people who have symptoms.
Although we are still at the forefront of CBD research, the early findings offer positive insight into the benefits of using a CBD product. While these findings are indeed a great leap forward for the CBD industry, we acknowledge that more research is needed in order to fully understand this naturally occurring molecule.
What is Stress and Anxiety?
Throughout life everyone experiences stress and anxiety at one time or another. In fact, some stress can actually be good, but too much of it can throw one into a downward spiral.
Although the terms stress and anxiety are often used interchangeably, there is a difference. Stress is actually a response to a threat in a situation; whereas anxiety is a reaction to the stress. Based upon early findings, it appears that CBD may be a viable treatment option for those suffering from stress and anxiety.
What is CBD?
As you likely know by now, CBD comes from the hemp plant. It stands for Cannabidiol, a phytocannabinoid (organic compound) that is naturally produced in hemp plants. CBD is responsible for the therapeutic and medicinal benefits that are associated with hemp. CBD does not cause the intoxication or euphoria that comes from cannabis plants. It is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in marijuana, not CBD in hemp, which is the primary psychoactive component of cannabis plants.
Will CBD Help with my Stress and Anxiety?
The short answer to this question is yes, CBD may help with your stress and anxiety. Researchers out of the New York University School of Medicine recently underwent a comprehensive review of CBD research in order to determine CBD’s potential as a treatment for anxiety related disorders.
After assessing the studies, the New York researchers found that existing preclinical evidence strongly supports CBD as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder. What’s even more exciting is that the human studies support a finding that CBD has an excellent safety profile, suggesting that an all-natural solution is available for those suffering with stress and anxiety.
More Research is Needed
As CBD continues to rise in popularity, it is undeniable that more research is needed into the benefits of this amazing molecule. And although CBD appears to be effective and safe for managing stress and anxiety, some urgency exists into identifying optimal dosage for CBD users.
